Move aside Burning Man. You too, EDC, because Further Future Music Festival has earned its title as Las Vegas’ Best Music Festival of 2015. You may not have heard about this festival yet as 2015 was its inaugural event. While it may be small in scale, its intimacy and collection of underground artists are what make this festival so great and unique.
Further Future took place this past May on the Moapa River Indian Reservation out in the Mojave Desert. The event was founded as a platform for a cultural movement by the same team behind the Robot Heart Phenomenon. The goal? To create an incredible experience that fosters a culture of mindful optimism, wonder, and exploration of the human capacity. They aim to combine various aspects of our world from art, science, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Seventy acts took the stage at this event ranging from experimental electronic, live indie rock, house music, and well, music that has no boundaries. Some of these acts included Com Truise, Nosaj Thing, Lisa Shaw, Warpaint, Thugfucker, Rhye, Hundred Waters, Bob Moses, Henry Saiz, and many more. Like many of these emerging festivals, there was more than just music featured. All weekend long, festival goers had opportunity to check out workshops and yoga classes, poetry readings, or some fun activities like eye gazing or a peripheral vision trek. There were also a series of speakers such as the SoundCloud’s CEO/Founder, Zappos CEO, Tony Hseih, and Alex Ljung.
The event seems like it’s somewhere between Lighting in a Bottle and Burning Man, with a more eclectic and futuristic feel to it. Take a look at the recap from this year’s event. Further Future is definitely setting the stage for a new festival focused on intellectual and auditory exchanges.
